Do Good for STEM Students: Donate Your Old Computers and Electronics at the ICAN Conference
In the spirit of Wish List Wednesday during Do Good Days, hosted by SHARE Omaha citywide on May 18, we are calling on the generosity of ICAN attendees to donate used computers, tablets, and electronics for STEM student and client use by Omaha STEM Ecosystem and AIM Institute nonprofit partners (e.g., Prairie STEM and Made New Makerspace).
Goodwill Omaha’s GoodBytes team will collect the items when attendees arrive at the ICAN Women’s Leadership Conference, providing donation receipts if desired. GoodBytes technicians will wipe* and erase personal data from donated devices, then GoodBytes and Goodwill Omaha will provide the refurbished items to Omaha STEM Ecosystem nonprofit partners as a final in-kind donation.
These suggested items can be used by STEM students/clients in the Omaha metro area:
- iPad* and Android tablets
- Mobile phones* (for drone and robotics classes to control the hardware)
- AV equipment for making movies:
- Microphones
- Cameras
- Lighting
- Robots
- Drones
- Charging stations (for devices)
- Power strips
*NOTE: Apple/Mac users should erase data from computers and devices prior to donation, per manufacturer or device instructions.

Where do I bring items?
On Wednesday, May 18, the day of the ICAN Women’s Leadership Conference, bring your gently used tech items to the Goodwill truck to be parked in front of the CHI Health Center from 7-10:30am. Items may also be dropped off at SHARE Omaha’s exhibit booth during the conference.
Will my information be removed from the items?
Goodwill Omaha takes the privacy of our donors very seriously, and we take great care and concern for all devices that could possibly contain customer data. We do ask that donors do their best to delete any sensitive information that may be on their devices before donating them. Our technicians perform a four step process. We use an industry standard utility Active @ Killdisk pro to wipe any and all drives we intend to use on site. If we deem the equipment is unusable onsite for any reason, that material is shipped directly to Dell Reconnect recycling which is PCI/NAID compliant.
